Summary

Born on March 30 under the Aries sign, Mayuri Kurotsuchi stands 174 cm tall and weighs 54 kg. He serves as the Captain of the 12th Division in the Gotei 13 and holds the position of President of the Shinigami Research and Development Institute, a role he assumed after Kisuke Urahara’s exile. His lieutenant is Nemu Kurotsuchi, an artificially created daughter figure. Mayuri possesses a skeletal, skull-like visage with blue fingernails that are short, save for the long nail on his right middle finger. In the anime, he is depicted with blue hair and yellow eyes when unmasked, wearing a white hat with pointed ends and a large purple scarf. He meticulously repaints his makeup daily, removing it before sleep. Physically, Mayuri is a master of body modification. His left arm can extend like a grappling hook, and he can extract a scythe-like weapon from his ear attached by a rope-like ligament. He utilizes a topical camouflage to blend with his environment, which flakes away upon revelation. He has also replaced his internal organs with functional false ones, a process he performs on himself and Nemu in under an hour to prevent injury. As a scientist, he embodies the mad scientist stereotype, displaying sadistic cruelty and viewing all beings, including himself, as research objects. He lacks empathy or morals, having used unaware subordinates as human bombs to capture Uryū Ishida and Orihime Inoue, and withheld critical information about the Bount to secure a subject for study. In combat, Mayuri enjoys torturing opponents slowly and relies on extensive preparation and contingency plans. As the head of the Shinigami Research Institute, he is a talented inventor who creates devices and techniques for battle, often ignoring Soul Society issues unless ordered by General Yamamoto. He is also an adept chemist, having developed a drug that can slow perception of time to the point of paralysis or enhance reaction speeds when diluted, as well as a regenerative serum for limb regrowth. His favorite food is pike fish, and he dislikes onions. In his leisure time, he reads Seiretei Communication, where he publishes a popular serialization titled "Effective Medication for the Brain." His Zanpakutō is Ashisogi Jizō, featuring a hilt wrapped in cloth with spiky protrusions resembling leaves and a giant baby’s head design. Unlike typical Shinigami, its sheath hangs directly in front of him. His Bankai is known as Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō.
