Using the nascent Shinigami powers he inherited from his father, Kazui helps those troubled by spirits, mirroring Ichigo's past actions. One day, Ichigo receives an unexpected invitation from his married Shinigami friends, Renji Abarai and Rukia Kuchiki, to take part in the "Konso Reisai," a ritual where a Hollow, a wicked spirit from the human world, is sacrificed to honor a deceased Shinigami captain who died exactly twelve years ago.
