Summary

Kenpachi Zaraki serves as the Captain of the 11th Division within the Gotei 13. He was born on November 19 in District 80 of the North Rukongai, a lawless area known for its thieves and murderers, in stark contrast to the orderly District 1. Standing 202 cm tall and weighing 108 kg, Zaraki is defined by his love for battling strong opponents and his hatred of natto. Notably, he is the only Shinigami Captain who did not undergo the traditional examination to achieve his rank. His surname is derived from the district of his birth, where he lived without a name during his youth, honing his swordsmanship and killing countless enemies. During his travels beyond District 80, Zaraki encountered a young girl from Kusajishi, Area 79, whose parents had been murdered. Having shown no fear of his blade, she reminded him of the only person he ever admired, leading him to name her Yachiru. On that same day, he adopted the name Kenpachi, a title reserved for the strongest swordsman who has killed the most. The two formed a father-daughter bond. Later, before achieving captaincy, Zaraki defeated Ikkaku Madarame, prompting Ikkaku to pledge his service and eagerly seek death matches with him. Zaraki eventually reached Seireitei, where he killed the previous 11th Division Captain to claim the position. This act reportedly caused Maki Ichinose to leave the Soul Society. According to anime accounts, his rise to Captain also motivated Ikkaku and Yumichika to join the Shinigami ranks.
