Summary

Kirigaya Kazuto, known in the virtual world by the alias Kirito, serves as the central protagonist of Sword Art Online. In reality, he resides with his aunt and younger cousin in a household of three, having been born on October 7, 2008. His age progresses from 14 at the beginning of the Aincrad arc to 16 by its conclusion and during the Fairy Dance arc. He is 17 during the Phantom Bullet arc, 18 in Mother’s Rosario, and remains 18 during the Alicization arc. Physically, he stands 172 cm tall, weighs 59 kg, and has AB blood type. Kirito is classified as a "solo" player, meaning he operates independently without joining a guild. He possesses the rare distinction of having participated in the closed beta testing for Sword Art Online, a privilege that informs his gameplay. His screen name is derived by combining the first syllable of his surname, Kirigaya, with the first syllable of his given name, Kazuto. When Akihiko Kayaba announced the death game, Kirito was initially surprised but adapted to the situation more quickly than most players. Although he invited his friend Klein to team up, Klein declined because he needed to locate his real-life friends within the game; Klein also turned down joining Kirito, feeling unable to shoulder the responsibility of protecting others despite his beta knowledge. In combat, Kirito primarily wields a single-handed straight sword. His most frequently used weapon is the Elucidator, which he acquired at the 50th floor. He later obtained a second blade, the Dark Repulser, which was forged for him by his blacksmith friend Lisbeth. His arsenal also includes the Anneal Blade at the first level, the Queen's Knightblade at the ninth level, and the Holy Sword Excalibur, which he earned by completing the "Calibur Quest."
