Summary

Accelerator, a fifteen-to-sixteen-year-old esper with white hair and red eyes, stands at 168 cm tall and serves as the primary protagonist of Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator. He is affiliated with the group GROUP as a former operative and attends Nagatenjouki Academy. As a Level 5 esper, he is recognized as the most powerful psychic in Academy City and acts as a central figure on the science side of the Toaru Majutsu no Index series, appearing prominently in volumes 5, 8, 12, 13, SS1, SS2, 14, 15, 19, and 20. His real name remains unknown, though he remembers his surname consisting of two characters and his given name of three. He partners with Last Order and is thematically associated with the song "Saikyou no Nanori." Initially appearing as an antagonist in the third light novel, Accelerator is a sadistic individual roughly the same age as Touma. His ability, Vector Change, allows him to manipulate the vector values of anything he touches, aided by a thin coat of AIM fields surrounding his body. This power enables feats such as reversing blood flow, generating plasma storms through wind velocity control, and blocking sound. The ability operates automatically, meaning he must consciously permit gravity to act upon him. This automatic redirection also blocks ultraviolet radiation, which prevents melanin production and results in his albino appearance, while simultaneously making him immune to projectiles like bullets and explosives like bombs. Accelerator’s unique powers made him the subject of an experiment to create the first Level 6 esper. According to the supercomputer Tree Diagram, which was destroyed by Index’s Dragon Breath, achieving this status required killing 128 skilled Level 5 espers without failure. With only six other known Level 5s in Academy City, an alternative plan involved Accelerator killing 20,000 skilled Level 3 espers, specifically the Misaka clones, to "level up" his power. He willingly participated in these experiments to establish a reputation as the most feared esper, eliminating anyone who dared to challenge him.
