Summary

Juushirou Ukitake serves as the Captain of the 13th Division within the Gotei 13. A man with a frail appearance and long white hair, he is deeply respected by his subordinates and peers for his unwavering honesty, loyalty, and strong personal sense of justice. He shares a close, decades-long friendship with 8th Division Captain Kyouraku Shunsui, dating back nearly two thousand years, and the two frequently collaborate in their duties. Although he is widely regarded as one of the most powerful captains, ranking alongside legends like Yamamoto, Kyouraku, Unohana, and Aizen, Ukitake’s combat effectiveness is severely hampered by a chronic illness. This condition forces him to limit his engagements to short bursts of activity, as excessive exertion triggers severe bouts of bloody coughing. Despite these physical limitations, his true strength was demonstrated when he and Kyouraku managed to hold their own against General Yamamoto for an extended duration. Yamamoto himself acknowledged that both disciples, whom he personally trained, possessed battlefield power surpassing that of any other captain, young or old. His Zanpakuto, Sōgyo no Kotowari, reveals its unique mechanics during the battle against Starrk and Lilynette. The weapon consists of two blades connected by a cord with talismans. When an energy-based attack, such as a Cero, strikes the left blade, it absorbs the beam. The connecting cord then transfers the charge to the right blade, where the talismans amplify the velocity. The energy is subsequently fired from the right sword at a speed equal to or greater than the initial incoming attack. The command to release its Shikai is "Naki Kotogotoku Waga Tate to Nare, Ikazuchi Kotogotoku Waga Yaiba to Nare."
