Summary

Rin Okumura is the fifteen-year-old protagonist of the series and the son of Satan, born to a human woman. He is the inheritor of Satan's powers, which he accesses through a demon-slaying katana named Kurikara, also known as Koumaken. The sword's sheath serves as a portal to Gehenna, the demon world, and drawing the blade transforms Rin into his demon form. In his human state, he displays subtle demonic traits such as sharper teeth, slightly pointed ears, and a black, fur-tufted tail that he typically hides inside his shirt. When transformed, two blue flames float above his head, his ears elongate into an elf-like shape, and his eyes glow bright blue. Although he can almost control the destructive bright blue flames that mark Satan's lineage, drawing Kurikara causes the flames to surge dramatically, often consuming him and causing him to lose his mind. He is accompanied by Kuro, a demon Familiar Cat who originally belonged to Father Fujimoto. Despite his rough demeanor, Rin is surprisingly skilled with his hands and can cook a wide variety of Japanese and Western home cuisine. He sleeps for an average of twelve hours a night and enjoys sukiyaki with any ingredients. His favorite manga genres are battle/action, comedy, and emotional drama, and he has a preference for cute, shy girls. He frequently vows to surpass his brother Yukio and become an exorcist to defeat Satan.
