Kon

Summary

Born on December 30, Kon operates primarily as a comedic foil within the narrative. When he is not occupying Ichigo’s body, his standard plushie form is met with disdain, serving as the target for cruel humor that provides comic relief in Bleach. Chad is one of the few who offers him respect, though he largely ignores him. The plushie resembles a knock-off of "Ponkichi," the protagonist of Chad’s favorite show, Carnivore Kingdom, and was originally a prize from a shooting game at the Karakura Town Festival. Kon suffers constant damage, such as being stepped on or torn, requiring Uryū Ishida to perform repairs. Uryū often adds unnecessary modifications, like dressing Kon like a designer doll, and once stitched a Quincy cross onto the back of his head as retaliation for Kon’s previous attack. Kon is notably perverted, frequently exploiting his form to get girls to hug him, though these attempts rarely succeed. After Ichigo relied on him less for transformation, Kon expressed a desire to inhabit Ichigo’s body again, citing opportunities for peeping and pulling up skirts, reasoning that Ichigo’s reputation would bear the brunt of the scandal. He has a fondness for Rukia, referring to her as "sister," a title he extends to most pretty girls. Technically, Kon is a ModSoul, a type of soul pill that grants superhuman speed and strength upon insertion. Due to the controversial origins of ModSouls, the Soul Society ordered their destruction, but Kon escaped by being mistakenly shipped with regular soul pills. This experience fuels his belief that all beings deserve a chance at life regardless of their origins. Ichigo named him "Kon," derived from "Kaizou Konpaku," the Japanese term for modified soul. While Kon preferred the name "Kai" from "Kaizou" because he thought it sounded cooler, Ichigo agreed to the request only to deny him the satisfaction of having his way. His themes include "Nichiyoubi Dansu" by Kuuki Koudan and "Bushman" by Rip Slyme.
