Summary

Articuno is a massive avian Pokémon characterized by its sky blue plumage and wings composed of ice. A crest of three darker blue, rhombus-shaped feathers adorns its forehead, complementing its circular red eyes, short gray beak, and long, slender gray legs equipped with three forward-facing and one backward-facing digit on each foot. A cluster of white, downy feathers covers its chest, while its tail, which matches the blue of its crest, is longer than its body. Its beauty is so captivating that observers are said to be paralyzed with awe. This Legendary Pokémon commands ice at will. In The Power of One (M02), its ice helped form the ocean's cradle alongside Moltres's fire, and it influences the weather of the Orange Islands. By flapping its wings, it chills atmospheric moisture to create snow, traveling between icy peaks. Legends claim it appears to lost travelers in frozen regions; while sometimes guiding them to safety as seen in Freeze Frame (EP191), it is also territorial, as demonstrated when it seized territories from Moltres and Zapdos, though the trio can combine their powers to defeat powerful foes. It inhabits cold, isolated areas like permafrost mountains and can be found in the Pokémon paradise Laqua in Pokémon Horizons. Additionally, it enjoys Articuno Treats prepared by Snacksworth. Galarian Articuno presents a distinct regional form with lavender body coloration and a black chest marking. Its black feet feature lavender talons, and its crest consists of three long, fused, purple feathers folded backward, matching the color of its beak and tail. Its eyes glow light blue, appear nearly closed, and are framed by a black, mask-like facial disc. When using psychic power, the mask and the white, feather-like blades of condensed energy at its wingtips glow. Galarian Articuno remains airborne using psychic abilities rather than its wings, which bear blades capable of slicing through iron. It fires psychic beams that immobilize opponents, earning its name, and can create mirages to evade danger. Despite its elegant movements, it possesses a cold and callous personality. It migrates globally but returns to the Crown Tundra every few decades to gather with other birds at the Dyna Tree to consume its fruits.
