Synopsis
Tennis prodigy Ryouma Echizen returns from the United States at his father's insistence, determined to leave his mark on Japan's tennis scene. Aiming to become the country's top player, he enrolls at Seishun Academy, famous for its elite middle school tennis team. Despite being a first-year, Ryouma catches the captain's attention and earns a chance to claim a spot in the starting lineup through the school's internal ranking matches. His older teammates initially doubt him due to his age, but his skill and perseverance gradually win their respect. As Seishun sets out for the National Tournament with their "super rookie," their objective is to seize the championship. To get there, though, they must survive the tough Tokyo Prefectural and Kanto Regional tournaments. Numerous formidable schools stand in their way, each with unique playing styles and ambitions. For Ryouma and his team to fulfill their dreams, they must come together and function as a united squad.
Background
On April 24, 2007, Viz Media released the first DVD box set in the United States. An additional three box sets have been released since January 15, 2008. However, these four sets only contain 50 of the 178 episodes. On April 2, 2021, Funimation obtained licensing rights to the series and announced a new dub was in the works.
