Synopsis
After surviving a harsh childhood, the lone swordsman Guts moves from one battle to the next, cutting down powerful foes with his massive blade. He eventually crosses paths with the mysterious Griffith and his mercenary company, the Band of the Hawk. When Griffith defeats Guts in combat, he takes the swordsman into his group, giving Guts a new experience of belonging alongside others. Alongside the skilled warrior Casca, Guts helps Griffith expand the band's fame and string of victories. As Griffith's military successes grow, he must contend with assassination plots and political schemes. He uses Guts to advance his own ambitions for power, exploiting the fact that the swordsman has no personal goals of his own. Even as Guts and Casca grow closer, his lack of purpose leaves him without a true sense of belonging. Torn by their conflicting desires, both Guts and Casca follow Griffith's dream, but the rising tensions among the three threaten to destroy everything around them.
Background
Berserk: Ougon Jidai-hen - Memorial Edition was presented at the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 on September 24, 2022. Unlike the Berserk: Ougon Jidai film trilogy, this re-edited version features the popular scene "Bonfire of Dreams" from the original work, along with other new scenes and music. In addition, hundreds of existing cuts have been reworked and updated as remastered versions. Aniplex released a six-disc box set on March 29, 2023, containing three Blu-ray discs with the complete series and three CDs with the original soundtrack. The Blu-rays include a special video with the interview of Kentaro Miura, shown at the Great Berserk Exhibition.
