Summary
Gambino serves as the father figure to Guts and leads a band of mercenaries. He raised Guts to follow in his footsteps as a soldier, inflicting the first of Guts' many scars across his nose during a training sparring match. In a betrayal of trust, Gambino sold Guts as a sex slave to Donovan, a pedophilic soldier who subjected the young boy to anal rape. This horrific event ultimately led to Donovan’s brutal death at Guts’ hands. Later in life, Gambino suffered a severe injury in battle, losing his leg and his capacity to fight. This physical decline deepened his resentment toward Guts, whom he blamed for the death of Shizu, the woman he loved and who had adopted Guts. Consumed by rage and alcohol, Gambino attempted to murder Guts. Just before Guts killed him in self-defense, Gambino confessed that he had sold his son for merely three silver coins. Despite this dark revelation, Guts holds no ill will toward his surrogate father.
