Kodansha Sets 2027 Anime for Hit Drama Mii-chan and Yamada-san

Kodansha has officially greenlit an anime adaptation of Nene Azuki’s web drama Mii-chan to Yamada-san (Mii-chan and Miss Yamada), with a broadcast window locked for 2027. The publisher marked the reveal with a celebratory illustration from Azuki herself, underscoring how quickly the series has climbed from Magazine Pocket serial to major screen project.
The story unfolds in 2012 Shinjuku, where university student-turned-hostess Yamada crosses paths with the clumsy, endlessly driven Mii-chan inside the glittering, exhausting world of nightclubs. What begins as an unlikely bond between two women working the floor builds toward a tragedy that has left readers gutted: one of them is killed roughly a year after they meet. That mix of warmth, grit, and heartbreak has fueled word of mouth far beyond the usual shōnen-adjacent lanes.
Azuki launched the series on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket in September 2024. Volume 6 shipped in April, the seventh and final tankōbon lands September 9, and print circulation already sits at about 2.8 million copies—strong numbers for a relatively young title that also ranked fourth among male readers in Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2026 and earned a General-category nod at the 50th Kodansha Manga Awards. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English license, with volume 1 due December 8.
Studio and cast details are still under wraps, but the official account @miichan__anime is live and already feeding early buzz. For fans who fell hard for the manga’s bittersweet nightlife portrait, 2027 suddenly looks a lot closer.
