Synopsis
Continues the story of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
Since his father's death, Tanjirou Kamado has taken on the role of supporting his family, living in poverty on a secluded mountain. Despite their hardships, the Kamado family leads a generally tranquil and joyful existence. One day, Tanjirou ventures to a nearby village to sell charcoal to earn money. As darkness descends on his return journey, he seeks shelter at the house of an unusual stranger, who cautions him about flesh-devouring demons that prowl the forest after sundown. Returning home the next morning, Tanjirou discovers a horrifying sight—his entire family has been brutally murdered. The sole survivor is his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a blood-craving demon. Consumed by anger and sorrow, Tanjirou swears to avenge his family and protect his remaining kin. Partnering with the enigmatic Demon Slayer Corps, he is determined to eliminate demons and safeguard what remains of his cherished sister's humanity.

The Demon Slayer Corps finds itself unable to resolve a string of mysterious disappearances occurring on a train, prompting Flame Pillar Kyoujurou Rengoku to step forward and confront the threat directly. Joining him are promising new recruits Tanjirou Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira, all eager to witness the capabilities of their esteemed leader. Unbeknownst to them, the demons behind the abductions have already set their sinister scheme in motion. The group must now call upon all their strength and skills to protect the two hundred passengers aboard the train. As tensions escalate, Tanjirou’s determination and sense of duty are pushed to a critical breaking point.

The worldwide box office total for Kimetsu no Yaiba Movie: Mugen Ressha-hen is over $503 million from more than 41 million tickets sold, making it the highest-grossing film of 2020 as well as the highest-grossing anime and Japanese film of all time. It was the first time in the history of cinema that a non-Hollywood production topped the annual worldwide box office. It also became the highest-grossing R-rated animated film of all time.
