Synopsis
Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl, longs to escape her small, rural town for the vibrant energy of Tokyo, a world far removed from her current reality. Taki Tachibana, a student living in the city who aspires to be an architect, navigates both his studies and a part-time job amid the urban hustle. One day, Mitsuha finds herself in Taki’s body in Tokyo, while Taki wakes up in Mitsuha’s body in the countryside. Driven to solve the riddle of this strange occurrence, they begin searching for each other. Their time spent living each other’s lives profoundly shapes their futures, weaving their fates together through destiny and chance encounters.
Background
Kimi no Na wa. won the LAFCA Animation Award in 2016 and the Best Animated Film in 2017 by Mainichi Film Awards. It also won the Grand Prize Award on the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival.
