Fruit Brains blends the Japanese words for fruit, "kudomono," and brain, "nou." Each episode features three two-minute segments that follow the same formula. Taking place in varied settings such as Hong Kong, Ancient Egypt, and outer space, Orange attempts to focus on a specific task—like watching a drug transaction, taking a break at work, or disarming a bomb on a space station. However, Pineapple constantly interrupts Orange's concentration with random and increasingly mysterious questions. This eventually causes Orange to lose control and call Pineapple a "fruit brain." As a consequence, both characters remove their outer layers to reveal their brains and then join bystanders—whether criminals, Egyptian gods and workers, or astronauts and aliens—in a dance routine. Orange then abandons the original objective, leading to predictable problems. This cycle repeats throughout the series.
