The contenders are Shinsei Industries' YF-19 and General Galaxy's YF-21, each vying for development funding. The YF-21 is piloted by Guld Goa Bowman, a hybrid of human and Zentraedi heritage. Shinsei gains a new test pilot in the headstrong fighter Isamu Dyson, who was once a comrade of Guld. As Isamu and Guld clash fiercely to prove which aircraft is superior, a Virturoid Idol named Sharon Apple is scheduled to hold her premiere concert on Eden. Her producer is Myung Fang Lone, another former friend of both Isamu and Guld. When the trio reunites, old grievances from a troubled past resurface. Unbeknownst to them, their shared history—coupled with the Supernova Project and Sharon Apple—will ultimately draw them together.

The sequel film to Macross Frontier: Itsuwari no Utahime. Continuing from the previous movie, Ranka's singing career thrives, while Sheryl's health deteriorates rapidly after she collapses during a live performance. Meanwhile, different factions scheme behind the scenes, aiming to control the Vajra swarm by using the vocal abilities of both songstresses. As the Macross Frontier fleet launches its final war against the Vajra, Alto ultimately makes his choice between Ranka and Sheryl.

This movie combines a recap of the original Frontier story with new plot elements. Sheryl Nome arrives at the colony fleet to perform a concert, but soon faces suspicion as hidden schemes within the Frontier administration emerge, hinting that she may be a Galaxy spy. At the same time, childhood friends Alto Saotome and Ranka Lee pursue their own dreams while the conflict between Frontier and the Vajra escalates. As the first part of the Frontier reimagining, the story is continued in its sequel, The Wings of Goodbye.

After a devastating conflict with the Zentradi, a powerful alien race, humanity set out toward the galactic core using a fleet of colony vessels collectively called the Macross Frontier. As the alien menace seemed to recede, life on the ships returned to a normal routine by the year 2059. Alto Saotome, an aspiring mecha pilot, and his fellow cadets were assigned to provide backup for famous singer Sheryl Nome during her concert aboard the Macross Frontier. The show was abruptly disrupted when the Vajra, a biomechanical alien species, appeared. The Vajra breached the ship's defenses and crash-landed near the concert area, triggering chaos. In the ensuing panic, a young girl named Ranka Lee became trapped and was targeted by the Vajra, but Alto managed to rescue her just in time. Following these incidents, the Strategic Military Services recognized Alto's remarkable combat skills and recruited him to fight this new extraterrestrial threat.
