Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai

First-year high school student Hotaru Hinase values her family and friends above anything else. Without any understanding of romantic feelings, she decides that she can live happily without ever falling in love. One day while at a café with a close friend, Hotaru witnesses a handsome honor student named Hananoi get broken up with in a harsh way. On her way home, she spots him sitting alone in the snow and offers him her umbrella as a kind gesture. The very next day, Hananoi shows up in Hotaru's classroom and asks her to be his girlfriend. Though she turns him down, he remains close by her side, constantly doing selfless acts in an effort to make her happy. Hotaru starts experiencing emotions she has never felt before. Believing those emotions might grow into love, she agrees to start dating Hananoi.

Background

Hananoi-kun to Koi no Yamai was published digitally in English as A Condition Called Love by Kodansha USA from March 3, 2020, to February 10, 2026, and in print since January 24, 2023. In 2021, the series won the 45th Kodansha Manga Awards in the shoujo category.
