Najika Kazami has a deep passion for food, both in eating and cooking. She holds dear the place she calls home—an orphanage in Hokkaido named Lavender House—along with its caretaker, Hagio. Despite the love she receives from Hagio and the other orphans, Najika decides to leave and enroll in a special academy in Tokyo, aiming to fulfill her dream of becoming a pastry chef. But Najika has another motive for attending the academy. She is searching for the boy she calls the "Flan Prince"—someone who moved her deeply with a cup of flan seven years ago. Now 13 years old, Najika discovers that the spoon he left with the flan bears the same emblem as the school she has been accepted to: the prestigious Seika Academy. Filled with hope, Najika steps onto the beautiful campus and becomes a first-year student in Seika's junior high division. Though her classmates initially dislike her because of her love for eating, she finds encouragement from two brothers who recognize her culinary skills—the popular Daichi and Sora Kitazawa. Can Najika carve out a place for herself at the academy through her cooking, and perhaps be reunited with her Flan Prince as well?

Kitchen no Ohimesama won the 2006 Kodansha Manga Award for children's manga. The series was published by Del Rey from January 30, 2007 to July 7, 2009. Kodansha Comics USA picked up the license and republished it in a four-volume omnibus edition from June 5, 2012 to June 18, 2013.
