Driven by intense passion, Mebuki Kusunoki came close to being chosen as the successor to a retiring Hero, but ultimately failed, leaving her filled with bitterness. Later, she and other former Hero candidates are summoned by Taisha for an unconventional mission outside the standard Hero selection process. Now, Mebuki and her companions are appointed as Sentinels, tasked with supporting the Heroes by venturing into the dangerous outer world to pave the way for humanity's eventual return. Although their powers are weaker than those of the Heroes, Mebuki resents this disparity, viewing it as an insult to her dedication. Still, she throws herself into the work, hoping that one day Taisha will recognize her as worthy of being a Hero. Facing numerous perils, the Sentinels, led by Mebuki, grow closer and complete their difficult missions while slowly uncovering the harsh truth about their world.
