CLAYMORE

During the Middle Ages, humanity lives in constant fear and paranoia. The word "Yoma" is whispered with dread, describing monstrous creatures that crave human flesh. Even more terrifying than their appetite is their ability to change shape and absorb the memories of their victims, making anyone—even family—a potential threat. The only effective means to destroy Yoma are the warriors of the Organization, commonly called "Claymore." These half-human, half-Yoma female fighters are sent to cleanse villages of Yoma infestations. Their existence is lonely and perilous; each mission could be their last. In the scarce time between battles and long journeys, they struggle increasingly to resist their Yoma instincts and preserve their humanity. The villagers, aware of this, pay for their protection reluctantly and regard their saviors with contempt. Claymore follows Clare, a stoic low-ranking Claymore, on her arduous quest for personal vengeance. Along the way, she discovers unexpected truths about the world—from the camaraderie and hope shared by her fellow warriors to the sinister secrets behind the Claymore Organization itself.

Background

Claymore was published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump Advanced imprint from April 4, 2006 to October 6, 2015. A complete box set of the series was released October 20, 2015. It was also published in Spanish by Glenát España since December 2006, publishing 21 volumes until Glénat went bankrupt. The series was continued by Norma Editorial until its final volume in September 2015; and in Italian by Star Comics from June 9, 2005 to June 13, 2015.
