His romantic life, however, has been full of letdowns, as every girl he has liked has ended up falling for his best friend, the quiet and handsome Makoto Sunakawa. After rescuing the petite and sweet Rinko Yamato from an unsettling situation, Takeo begins to develop feelings for her. Unbeknownst to him, Rinko also feels the same way. Misunderstanding her intentions, Takeo believes she is interested in Makoto, and true to his selfless personality, he decides to support their relationship, even if it means sacrificing his own happiness.

The series was published in English as My Love Story!! by VIZ Media under the Shojo Beat imprint from July 1, 2014 to March 4, 2025. It has also been published in Spanish by Ivrea España since December 2015. The manga was adapted into a Japanese live-action film directed by Hayato Kawai that was screened on October 31, 2015.
