A legend says that any couple who enters the University of Tokyo together will find eternal happiness. For Keitarou Urashima, getting in has been a struggle; after failing the entrance exam twice, he decides to stay at his grandmother's inn in Tokyo to prepare for a third attempt. When he arrives, he discovers his grandmother is not there and the inn has been turned into Hinata House, a women-only dormitory. His first visit is filled with misunderstandings, making the residents suspicious of him. His aunt Haruka Urashima, who runs the dorm, accidentally lets it slip that he is supposedly a Tokyo University student, which changes the girls' perception and allows him to stay. Carrying the weight of this lie, Keitarou begins to get to know his new neighbors: the cute but aggressive Naru Narusegawa, the clever and resourceful Mitsune Konno, the gentle Shinobu Maehara, the disciplined Motoko Aoyama, and the playful Kaolla Su. Keitarou's difficult journey toward getting into Tokyo U becomes his goal, driven by a childhood promise to the one girl who was ever kind to him, and the hope of meeting her again.

Background

Love Hina won the 25th Kodansha Manga Award in the Shounen category in 2001. The series was published in English by Tokyopop from May 21, 2002, to September 16, 2003. Kodansha USA republished the series in 3-in-1 omnibus volumes from October 25, 2011, to March 26, 2013. It was also released in Brazilian Portuguese by Editora JBC in 28 volumes from May 2002 to August 2003.
