Kyon is an ordinary first-year high school student who abandoned his childhood dreams of ESPers, time travelers, and aliens once he reached middle school. But sitting right in front of him is the stunning, brilliant, and eccentric Haruhi Suzumiya, who declares during her self-introduction that her greatest desire is to meet aliens, time travelers, people from parallel worlds, or those with psychic powers. Intrigued, Kyon begins striking up casual conversations with her before class, and these gradually turn into daily interactions. One day, after Kyon comments on Haruhi's dissatisfaction with the existing school clubs, he finds himself forcibly enrolled in the brand-new Spreading Excitement All Over the World with the Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade—better known as the SOS Brigade.
