In "Absolute Boyfriend," high school student Riiko Izawa has faced repeated rejections from her crushes. After yet another failure, she stumbles upon a lost phone in a park and returns it to its owner, Gaku Namikiri, an eccentric salesman. Gaku offers Riiko a product from his company as a thank you, and when she jokingly asks for a boyfriend, he directs her to a website selling "lover figures." Intrigued despite her skepticism, Riiko selects the "Nightly Series 01" model and signs up for a three-day free trial. The next day, a full-sized, naked male figure arrives at her home. Riiko follows the activation instructions, bringing the highly realistic robot named Night Tenjou to life with a kiss. Over the course of the trial, Night becomes the ideal boyfriend. However, Gaku returns, revealing that Riiko now owes 100 million yen because she missed the cancellation deadline. As an alternative, she can keep Night and serve as a beta tester to help the company improve their models. Strapped for cash and having grown attached to Night, Riiko must decide how to proceed.

Released in North America under the title Absolute Boyfriend, Zettai Kareshi. has spawned several live-action adaptations. A Japanese drama series, Zettai Kareshi: Kanzen Muketsu no Koibito Robot, aired in 2008; a Taiwanese drama series, Jue Dui Darling, aired in 2012; and most recently a South Korean drama series, My Absolute Boyfriend , aired in 2019. The series was published in English as Absolute Boyfriend by VIZ Media under the Shojo Beat imprint from February 7, 2006 to May 6, 2008.
