Yuuichi Katagiri has always faced financial difficulties but keeps a cheerful attitude thanks to his close group of friends. To fulfill a promise he made to them, he saves up money to join a school trip. However, the funds disappear, and suspicion falls on Shiho Sawaragi and Makoto Shibe, who were in charge of the collected money. Even though they are innocent, they accept the blame because no one else steps forward. A few days later, Yuuichi and his friends receive strange letters that lure them to a meeting. Once there, they are attacked and knocked unconscious. When they wake up in an unfamiliar room, they encounter "Manabu-kun," a character from a controversial children's show that was canceled due to its harmful content. Manabu-kun reveals that one of the group members has a large debt and arranged this gathering to resolve it through a "friendship game"—a series of challenges designed to test their loyalty and trust. As hidden secrets and betrayals come to light, Yuuichi must figure out which of his friends he can rely on and uncover the true person responsible for the betrayal.

Tomodachi Game was published digitally as an English simulpub through K Manga. It has also been released in Spanish by Milky Way Ediciones since March 2016; and in Polish by Waneko since April 15, 2023. The series was adapted into multiple Japanese live-action TV series and films.
