High school student Ryouhei Arisu frequently escapes the boredom of everyday life. One night, after spending time at a bar with his close friends Daikichi Karube and Chouta Segawa, they wait for the early morning train. A sudden, spectacular display of fireworks appears, with one massive, blinding firework causing them to lose consciousness. When they wake up back at the bar, covered in dust, they find the city has become a desolate wasteland. Rather than feeling despair, Arisu gains a new sense of vitality and enjoys the freedom of this empty city. This feeling is short-lived when the three carelessly enter a festive venue, mistaking it for a dream while unknowingly stepping into the arena for their first deadly game. As they journey deeper into the mysterious Borderland—a dangerous place where each game threatens their lives and a single mistake means certain death—Arisu and his friends face the perilous challenges ahead.

Background

Imawa no Kuni no Alice was first serialized on Shokugakan's Shounen Sunday S from November 25, 2010 to March 25, 2015. The serialization was moved to Weekly Shounen Sunday on April 8, 2015 and ended on March 2, 2016. The manga also received a live-action adaptation with eight episodes directed by Shinsuke Satou and produced by Netflix. The series was published in English as Alice in Borderland by VIZ Media under the VIZ Signature imprint as 2-in-1 omnibus volumes from March 15, 2022 to March 19, 2024.
