During a trip to the National Library, middle schoolers Miaka Yuuki and Yui Hongo get drawn into "The Universe of The Four Gods," an old Chinese book. Miaka becomes the chosen priestess of Suzaku and needs to collect her celestial warriors to call forth the god and get three wishes. At the same time, Yui is forced to be Seiryuu's priestess by the enemy country that follows Seiryuu. Once close friends, they are now pitted against each other, caught up in a drawn-out fight to summon their gods and make their wishes come true.

Both Bazett and Shirou find themselves trapped in a time loop that lasts four days, starting on the fourth day of the 5th Holy Grail War. Each time they die or survive the four days, they always wake up on the first day of the loop, aware of everything that has happened to them since the first loop began. Determined to break the cycle, Bazett, Avenger, and Shirou fight to uncover the truth behind the endless four days.

In this retelling of the classic Ribbon no Kishi, the story takes place in a medieval fantasy world where Princess Sapphire is forced to pose as a male prince in order to inherit the throne, since women are not allowed to rule.
