In this retelling of the classic Ribbon no Kishi, the story takes place in a medieval fantasy world where Princess Sapphire is forced to pose as a male prince in order to inherit the throne, since women are not allowed to rule. This ruse starts at her birth when her father, the King, announces that his newborn is a son instead of a daughter. The King makes this choice to stop Duke Duralumon, an evil character who would tyrannically govern the kingdom if he became king, and the King is resolved to avoid this at any cost.
