In a far-off future, Kowloon Walled City stands as a refuge for those who hold dear the traditions of Hong Kong’s past, existing as a crowded slum. Real estate agent Reiko Kujirai dreams of discovering new and exciting locales within this place. Her only coworker, Hajime Kudou, is captivated by the city's nostalgic ambiance and staunchly opposes any modern elements that threaten its integrity. Despite their clashing preferences and frequent arguments over minor issues, Reiko and Hajime often enjoy each other's company. After a mistaken prank leads Hajime to make an unanticipated gesture towards Reiko and then quickly apologize, Reiko becomes puzzled by his actions. Her confusion leads her to investigate, eventually uncovering memories from her past that she had forgotten.

Kowloon Generic Romance was nominated for the sixth Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards in 2020. The series ranked third in the 2021 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! for the Male Readers division. In the same year, the manga was nominated for the 14th Manga Taisho Award and placed ninth in the final ranking. The series has been published in English by Yen Press since August 9, 2022, and in French by Kana since May 21, 2021.
