At Kamome Academy, the "Seven Mysteries" are well-known school legends, including the story of Hanako-san—a young girl's spirit said to haunt the third-floor girls' bathroom in the old school building, granting wishes to those who call upon her. First-year student Nene Yashiro, hoping to find love, summons Hanako-san, but is shocked to discover that the spirit is actually a boy named Hanako-kun. When Hanako-kun admits he lacks the magical tools needed to fulfill wishes, Nene tries other methods to win over her crush. Her situation worsens after she eats a mermaid scale, which transforms her into a fish. Hanako-kun rescues her, and their fates become linked; he agrees to help her on the condition that she becomes his assistant. As Nene becomes more involved with the supernatural world, she learns that the academy's Seven Mysteries are far more real than simple rumors.
