In "Shinobu's Pure Heart," the title character—a typical high school girl—firmly refuses to acknowledge that she is a ninja, even though her class representative, Hitoyoshi Kageyama, repeatedly witnesses her engaging in unmistakable ninja behavior: climbing walls, flinging shuriken, setting off smoke bombs, and vanishing without warning. For all her remarkable combat and stealth talents, Shinobu knows next to nothing about forming friendships or navigating romantic relationships, which makes it hard for her to communicate her feelings to Hitoyoshi—who is equally oblivious when it comes to such things. Still, through their daily interactions and shared school experiences, the two gradually grow closer. Along the way, Shinobu begins to understand what it really means to be a normal high school student.
