In memory of his father's advice that a person should aim to be useful, third-year high school student Nariyuki Yuiga has dedicated himself to excelling academically, despite his previous struggles. His main objective is to secure a special VIP nomination, a distinguished scholarship that covers all university tuition fees, to provide a brighter future for his financially strained family. Although Nariyuki has a strong chance at winning the nomination, he finds himself consistently overshadowed by Rizu Ogata in math and Fumino Furuhashi in literature. Upon receiving the nomination, Nariyuki learns of its condition: he must tutor both Rizu and Fumino, who struggle with the very subjects they wish to pursue in their future careers. As university application deadlines approach, Nariyuki must devise a strategy to help his classmates improve in their weaker subjects before time expires.

Background

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai were published in English as We Never Learn in VIZ Media's digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. Afterward, the series was added to VIZ Media's Weekly Shonen Jump lineup and it was simulpub through MANGA Plus. The volumes were published by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint from December 4, 2018, to May 17, 2022. It was also published in Spanish by Editorial Ivrea from July 11, 2019, to December 14, 2023.
