86 won the Grand Prize at the 23rd Dengeki Novel Awards in 2016. The light novel ranked second and fifth in the 2018 and 2019 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! in the Light Novel category, respectively. The series has been published in English as 86: Eighty-Six by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint since March 26, 2019. It has also been released in Italian by Dokusho Edizioni since April 2, 2024.
