At the end of winter, a German boarding school student named Thomas Werner is discovered dead one morning. Among his belongings is a letter addressed to his classmate Juli, which simply reads, "Here is my love. Here is the sound of my heart." Juli, usually diligent in his studies, finds his worldview shattered by the letter's message and falls into deep despair. His cynical roommate, Oscar, who secretly harbors feelings for Juli, takes on the role of watching over Juli's emotional state while concealing his own feelings. Shortly after, a new student named Eric arrives at the school, bearing a striking resemblance to the deceased Thomas.
