In "Azumanga Daioh," Chiyo Mihama, a precocious student who has skipped several grades, finds herself in high school where she encounters a diverse group of classmates. Standing out among them is the tall and somewhat intimidating Sakaki, the energetic and often annoying Tomo Takino, the absent-minded but puzzle-savvy Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, the diet-obsessed Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara who loves karaoke despite her awful singing, and the fiercely competitive tomboy Kagura. As Chiyo bonds with these unique individuals, they share typical high school experiences—navigating classes, studying, enjoying summer breaks, and engaging in various mischievous activities together.

Background

Azumanga Daioh was published in English by ADV Manga from September 16, 2003, to April 6, 2004, and in a complete omnibus on November 20, 2007. Yen Press republished the series as a complete omnibus with new translations on December 15, 2009. It was also released in Brazilian Portuguese by NewPOP Editora from July 2014 to May 2015.
