Kuujou, Joutarou

Summary

Joutarou Kuujou is the protagonist of Part 3 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and the only JoJo to appear across five different series. Born in 1971 with an Aquarius zodiac sign, he stands 195 cm tall with a B blood type. He is the son of Holy Kuujou and grandson of Joseph Joestar, with his name likely derived from jazz saxophonist Sadao Watanabe, whose touring lifestyle mirrors Joutarou’s own absent father. His signature look features a trenchcoat-length school jacket with yellow collar chains, a Japanese student cap that often blends with his hair, and a perpetually cool, slightly disinterested demeanor characterized by his catchphrase "Yare yare daze," expressing exasperation or boredom. Initially imprisoned due to fear of his Stand, Joutarou demonstrates its power when a phantom hand catches a bullet meant for his head, an event only visible to Holy. Rescued by Joseph and Muhammad Avdol, he learns to wield Star Platinum, a muscular, Aztec-inspired Stand with machine-like precision and immense physical strength. Despite his tough, delinquent exterior and quick temper, he is intelligent, loyal, and deeply respects his family, though he rarely expresses these emotions verbally. He is often pursued by adoring girls whom he ignores, and Dio Brando recognizes him as his greatest threat. In Part 6, Stone Ocean, Joutarou has become an oceanologist and father to Jolyne, who inherits both his Stand abilities and his adventurous spirit. He displays a fierce protective instinct, taking fatal blows for his daughter and rejecting marriage proposals from her companion, Anasui. His combat style balances ferocity with mercy; he spares enemies like Noriaki Kakyouin and Polnareff when they are influenced by Dio, providing them proper burials or forming alliances, while showing no such leniency to malicious foes like the D'Arby brothers. Star Platinum is one of the strongest Stands, possessing superhuman speed, accuracy, and a "Star Finger" attack, but its effective range is limited to two to three meters. Its hidden ability to stop time is revealed during his epic battle with Dio. The Stand’s Star card symbolizes hope, fitting for Joutarou, who remains youthful in appearance throughout the series and is widely regarded as its most charismatic character.
