Summary

Bunta Fujiwara, a forty-three-year-old (forty-four in Project D) tofu shop owner in Akina and father of Takumi, was formerly the number one downhill racer on Mount Akina. Though he has retired from competition, he remains the fastest driver in the region and focuses on guiding his son’s development behind the wheel. Bunta is the original owner of the mysterious AE86, which holds the record for the fastest downhill time at Akina. His training methods are unique; he places a cup of water in the drink holder for Takumi to carry during his morning tofu deliveries, forcing the young driver to maintain smooth control to avoid spilling a drop. Bunta enjoys the sound of carburetors and tobacco, while disliking tofu and large vehicles. His enduring skill is demonstrated when he effortlessly drifts the Trueno with Yuuichi as a passenger, lighting a cigarette mid-turn.
