Kasahara, Iku

Kasahara, Iku

Summary

Iku Kasahara serves as the central protagonist of the series. At twenty-two years old, she begins her journey with the rank of Librarian First Class before eventually ascending to the position of Chief Librarian. Her motivation to join the Library Defense Force's Kantō Library Base in 2019 stems from a pivotal moment when an unidentified high-ranking member of the Kantō Library Defense Force rescued a book she intended to purchase from being censored. She reveres this unknown figure as her "prince" and aspires to become an "ally of justice" just as he was for her. Consequently, she possesses a fierce sense of justice regarding freedom of expression, demonstrating a willingness to risk her life to protect the books she has sworn to defend. Although her background includes participation in high school track and field, which grants her significant stamina and drive, her initial recruit training proves extremely difficult. This is largely due to the intense pressure exerted by her drill instructor, Atsushi Dojo, who pushes her harder than any other recruit. When the narrative commences, Kasahara is depicted as a sub-par trainee who frequently commits fatal errors and lacks the deep knowledge of the cause held by her peers, primarily because she neglects to pay attention during base lectures. Despite these shortcomings, she is selected for the Library Task Force, an elite unit of soldiers trained for rigorous operations. While she initially struggles, she eventually becomes competent in the base's library clerical duties, though maintaining a strong presence under the strict supervision of Dojo remains a challenge. Over time, however, the dynamic shifts as she receives unexpected care from Dojo, causing her feelings to soften and leading her to open up to him.
