In the final years of the Showa era, the Media Betterment Act was enacted, resulting in a sweeping prohibition of any media considered unsuitable. In defiance of this unjust censorship, libraries established the Library Defense Force (LDF) to stand as the sole opposition against the Media Betterment Committee (MBC). Iku Kasahara, an enthusiastic reader with a boyish demeanor, joins the Kanto branch of the LDF. Her profound love for books drives her to resist the censorship, inspired by a mysterious LDF agent who rescued her from the MBC five years earlier. At twenty-two, Iku is quickly identified as a promising new recruit. Although she has realized her dream of joining the LDF, Iku frequently clashes with her strict instructor, Atsushi Doujou, who seems unusually harsh with her. She is surprised to discover that Doujou and other members support her inclusion in the Library Task Forces (LTF). As part of this elite unit, Iku must prove her abilities and carry out her duties with commitment.
