Latios is a male-only Legendary Pokémon with a sleek, bird-like physique reminiscent of an aircraft. Its body features a thick neck and lacks legs, allowing it to float gracefully. The coloration is primarily blue, accented by white markings on the arms and a stripe running up the back to the head. Distinctive features include jet-plane wings on its back, jagged fins at the rear, a red triangle on its chest, and a blue facial mask. Long, ear-like fins extend from its jaws, and it possesses red eyes and three-fingered arms with blue lower-arm coverings. Latias serves as its female counterpart. Personality-wise, Latios is generally gentle and avoids conflict, though anime portrayals sometimes depict a grumpy demeanor with distrust toward humans. It favors compassionate Trainers, opening its heart to them. Latios communicates via telepathy, enabling it to understand human speech, detect emotions, and locate targets. It can summon explosive light energy for combat and, as noted by Oakley, possesses shape-shifting abilities. In media such as Pokémon Heroes, Pokémon Adventures, and Pokémon Journeys, it demonstrated "Sight Sharing," allowing Latias and nearby individuals to see through its eyes. It resides near water and was observed in the Pokémon paradise Laqua in Pokémon Horizons. Latios enjoys Latios Treats produced by Snacksworth, who once followed it to a secret location. It can be summoned using an Eon Flute. Latios can undergo Mega Evolution to become Mega Latios. In this form, its blue hues shift to purple, and horns emerge along its jawline.
