Soda, Makoto
Seiyuu / Dub
Summary
Makoto Soda is a formidable defender known for his ability to deliver dangerous tackles that often go unnoticed by referees. He possesses considerable speed and frequently applies special effects to the ball when passing or shooting. Impulsive by nature, he shares a hot-headed temperament with players like Hyuga and Napoleon, which can easily lead to physical altercations. During the match between Nankatsu and Azumaichi, Soda gave Tsubasa significant trouble, even managing to injure Tsubasa’s leg, although Nankatsu ultimately secured the victory. His performance earned him a spot on the All Japan Jr. Youth squad for the International Jr. Youth Tournament, where he was sent off with two yellow cards while marking Napoleon during the match against France. In the World Youth arc, Soda chose not to join the J-league after high school to dedicate himself to the national team, a decision driven by two losses in friendly matches against Holland. However, he was dropped by coach Gamo because his playing style was deemed too predictable. Following a period of intense training, Soda returned with an improved game, allowing him to feature in the second round of the Asian preliminaries. Later, in Road to 2002, he joined Gamba Osaka. His special techniques include the Kamisori Shoot, Kamisori Pass, and Kamisori Tackle. In trivia, it is noted that during his first encounter with Tsubasa, Soda admitted to attempting the Drive Shoot at a young age but failing. Despite growing older, he appeared to have abandoned the technique, as he was no longer practicing it.
