Summary
As the guardian of the Tenchi Kaigen “Muten” Sutra and one of the active Sanzo priests, he conceals his true origins while orchestrating the Gyuumaoh revival experiment at Houtou Castle for unknown purposes. He watches the Sanzo Ikkou from a distance, deliberately stirring up trouble because he views their future like an entertaining game. This manipulative behavior extends to the nearby Kougaiji group, whom he keeps under his control through belittling conduct. Born into a wealthy but ordinary family where both parents were university professors, he followed an accelerated academic path, entering graduate school early and earning a doctorate to satisfy his family’s expectations. However, he abruptly left home to become a Buddhist monk, drawn by an interest in the Sanzo priests. Upon meeting Koumyou Sanzo, he became an apprentice monk named “Kenyuu.” After killing the previous Sanzo priest Goudai and assuming the title, he was renamed “Ukoku” by Koumyou. He traveled with Koumyou for a year before embarking on a solitary journey. Nii Jienyi serves as an alternate identity for Ukoku Sanzo, disguised as a “leading professor in life sciences.” He abandons the dignity of a Sanzo priest by spiking his hair, growing stubble, and wearing a ragged white coat. His exceptional scientific expertise and knowledge of youkai magics make him the only human permitted to reside in Houtou Castle. He shares a physical relationship with Gyokumen Koushu, feigning subservience while secretly pulling her strings. Recently retrieving the “Muten Sutra” from the stuffed bunny he always carries, he has resumed his shadowy operations as “Priest Ukoku Sanzo.” His ability allows him to bury all creation in a darkness deeper than night, nullifying any and all attacks.
