Hyoubu, Kyousuke
Summary
Serving as the leader of P.A.N.D.R.A. and the primary antagonist of the series, Kyousuke presents the visage of a high school student despite being at least eighty years old, utilizing his abilities to maintain his youthful appearance. Similar to Kaoru’s ability to override fully charged ESP Counter Measure generators, he can also bypass these defenses, though he chooses to do so only when it serves his own whims. With few viable methods available to harm, subdue, or contain him, Kyousuke operates under the conviction that he is free to act entirely according to his own volition. He derives pleasure from thwarting B.A.B.E.L.’s efforts to capture him and frequently employs hypnosis to manipulate Minamoto for his own amusement, such as creating illusions that age Kaoru, Shiho, and Aoi beyond their true years. Despite this misanthropy, Kyousuke harbors no ill will toward other espers. He regards Kaoru as his queen and soulmate because of her unique capacity to defy the ESP Counter Measure generators, and he earnestly desires for her to mature quickly, remaining largely indifferent to the fact that she behaves more like a child. This indifference forces Minamoto to endure her immature behavior on a daily basis. Additionally, Kyousuke shares a social dynamic with Momotarou; both consistently view ordinary people in a negative light and believe that the testimony of an esper always outweighs that of a normal person, a perspective reinforced by their shared dysphoric experiences with non-espers.
