Shen Long

Summary

Shen Long, also known as Kami Ryuu or the God Dragon, serves as the wish-granting entity for Earth. Distinct from the red Shen Long associated with the Black Star Dragon Balls, the Earth's Shen Long appears in green. He is summoned by assembling the seven Dragon Balls, which are notably smaller than their Namekian counterparts, measuring roughly the size of a large orange rather than a beach ball. These stones turn to stone for 365 Earth days after a wish is granted, requiring that period of dormancy before they can be used again. The dragon can grant any wish provided it does not exceed the power of his creator, who must be alive, such as Kami or Dende. Shen Long is known for threatening to kill summoners who fail to state a wish within the allotted time or at all. A specific limitation prevents him from bringing back the same person from the dead more than once. His physical manifestation is tied to a stone statue kept by his creator; if Shen Long is killed, both the dragon and the Dragon Balls turn to stone, and the statue shatters. However, the creator or another Namekian can rebuild the statue to restore Shen Long and the Dragon Balls, a process that occurred after he granted Piccolo Daimao’s wish for youth. The number of wishes Shen Long can grant has changed over time. While Kami and Piccolo were separate entities, he was limited to a single wish. After Dende resurrected him, his capacity increased to two wishes, or three if the first wish did not revive more than one person at a time. The summoner retains the option to request only one wish, which reduces the subsequent dormancy period of the Dragon Balls to six months.
