America

Summary

The Democratic Republic of the United States of America, commonly known as America, is a young nation originally referred to as the "New World" and serves as the self-proclaimed leader of the Allies. His human persona is Alfred F. Jones, a nineteen-year-old male with an appearance that matches his age. He possesses blue eyes and short blonde hair, which shifts to a light brownish-blonde hue in the anime adaptation. His national symbols include the rose, and he celebrates his birthday on July 4th in Washington D.C., where he resides. In his early childhood, America was contested by France, England, and Finland, with England ultimately emerging victorious as his guardian. The two shared a brotherly bond that deteriorated significantly following the American Revolution. Despite their modern-day habit of bickering and teasing, they maintain a deep mutual care, with England remaining one of America’s few true friends. Another close companion is Japan, who is also considered a genuine friend. The pair frequently play video games, watch movies, and collaborate on technological and automotive innovations. America holds a strong fondness for Japanese culture, lifestyle, and landmarks like the Tokyo Tower and local shrines, often reacting with excitement. Conversely, Japan is frequently baffled by America’s Western customs and has been known to photograph his peculiarly colored cakes in confusion. America also maintains a friendship with Tony, an alien from outer space. While he interacts with extraterrestrials, he lacks the ability to see fairies, spirits, or other mystical entities, a capability his friend England possesses. However, America can perceive these supernatural beings specifically on Halloween, though not on any other day of the year. He shares a blood-brother bond with Canada, though the specifics of their age or twin status remain unspecified. Due to their striking physical resemblance, nations like Cuba often confuse the two. America frequently overlooks or overshadows Canada, who internally fumes at this treatment but otherwise maintains a normal sibling dynamic with his brother. Personality-wise, America is energetic, cheerful, and hyperactive, though he can be nosy, impulsive, and poor at reading social atmospheres, which often annoys other nations. This trait may explain why Japan and England are his only real friends. His hobbies encompass archaeology, sports, sketching, gaming, and filmmaking, particularly horror genres. He has a penchant for fast food like hamburgers and is currently obsessed with heroes, justice, freedom, strange diets, and weight-loss machines. Despite loving horror movies, he is terrified of them, as well as ghosts and marmite. He firmly believes that one can drive to any country in the world. Physically, he possesses superhuman strength, demonstrated by his ability to swing a buffalo as a child, stop a car with his foot, and drag England’s heavy Rolls Royce for an hour. His tolerance for eating strange, unappetizing foods stems from England’s historically tasteless cooking. Visually, the ahoge on the right side of his head represents Nantucket, while his glasses symbolize Texas. In the manga, his bomber jacket features an embroidered "50" on the back to represent the fifty states, a detail omitted in the anime. Although he wears glasses, he has no vision problems. The mangaka, Hidekaz Himaruya, has stated that the "F" in Alfred F. Jones may stand for Franklin, Foster, or Fuck.
