Kurosaki, Masaki

Summary

Masaki Kurosaki was the loving wife of Isshin and mother of Ichigo, serving as the emotional center of the Kurosaki family. Born on June 9, she resided in the Kurosaki House in Karakura Town. Her life ended tragically when she sacrificed herself to protect Ichigo from the Hollow known as Grand Fisher, who had lured the boy by assuming the forms of humans with high spiritual energy. Since Ichigo could not yet distinguish between spirits and humans, he chased the lure, prompting Masaki to intervene and shield her son at the cost of her own life. Her death devastated her family, with both Isshin and Ichigo burdened by guilt. Isshin believed he was to blame for arriving too late to save his wife, while Ichigo felt responsible for the tragedy. Tatsuki Arisawa noted that Ichigo ceased crying whenever he encountered memories of his mother, whom she described as having the most beautiful mother ever. Despite his grief, Isshin explained to Ichigo that he never blamed him, reasoning that he was the man the woman he loved chose to save, and that Masaki would not forgive him if he harbored such resentment. Isshin honored Masaki’s memory deeply. He hung a large poster in their home bearing the phrase "Mazaki forever" and visited her grave annually. He smoked only on this specific day each year, a habit he adopted because Masaki had once complimented him on how cool he looked while smoking during their early dating days. This remark remained the only time she ever praised his appearance.
