Raikou

Raikou

Summary

Raikou is a quadrupedal, tiger-like Pokémon with a yellow coat, black stripes, and a white underbelly. Its face features thick white fur surrounding red eyes, while the muzzle forms a light blue "X." A black faceplate covers the forehead, nose, and ears, which have two bumps. Two long fangs give it the appearance of a saber-toothed cat, and its large, non-retracting claws converge to a single point. Extra fur hangs before its thighs, and a mane resembling dull purple storm clouds runs along its back, enabling it to shoot lightning bolts. It possesses a thin, angular light blue tail ending in a spark-shaped formation. One hundred and fifty years ago, a lightning strike caused a massive fire at the Brass Tower in Johto, which was extinguished by a sudden downpour. Three unnamed Pokémon perished, but the Legendary Pokémon granted them new life, reviving one as Raikou to represent the lightning that struck the Burned Tower. Proverbs claim it descended from the sky with a bolt of lightning. It can fly by generating storm clouds, as seen in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs, and is said to control them at will. Representing the speed of lightning, Raikou races across grasslands, barking cries that sound like thunder and create shock waves. It appears during thunderstorms and when other Electric-type Pokémon are in danger. In The Legend of Thunder!, Raikou is distrustful of humans but may form bonds with those who assist it. It loves Raikou Treats made by Snacksworth, with whom it once raced up a mountain. Raging Bolt is believed by Occulture to be an ancestor of Raikou. According to the Sleep Style Dex, Raikou’s breath rumbles like distant thunder while sleeping. Upon waking, it travels quickly, roaring like crashing thunder. It can be lured with Raikou Incense and enjoys Raikou Biscuits. It sleeps in three styles: Energy-Storing Sleep, Meditative Sleep, and Lightning Sleep.
