Summary
Ryuken Ishida is the father of Uryuu and a former Quincy of immense power who now views his heritage as a waste of time. Despite his disdain for the Quincy way, he possesses significant strength, which he utilizes to help his son regain his lost abilities. His training comes with a strict condition: Uryuu must sever his friendship with Ichigo. While he refuses to participate in Quincy activities, he harbors a strong distaste for Shinigami. In his past, he was close friends with Isshin Kurosaki, and brief flashbacks depict the two doctors exchanging barbs, often ending with Ryuken shooting arrows at Isshin. Both men are medical professionals, with Ryuken managing a hospital and Isshin running a clinic.
