Summary

Serving as the lieutenant of the 12th Division within the Gotei 13, Nemu operates under the command of Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi. She is an artificial being constructed by Mayuri through his experiments with artificial bodies and souls, a origin that has shaped her into an introverted and melancholic individual who typically remains silent in her captain's presence. Their dynamic deviates significantly from a standard father-daughter bond, as Mayuri displays little regard for her well-being, even utilizing her as bait during battles. His only apparent concession is a form of pride in his own creation skills, occasionally manifested as concern for her survival. Despite enduring severe mistreatment and abuse, Nemu maintains unwavering loyalty to Mayuri, expressing genuine fear at the possibility of his death, likely stemming from a sense of gratitude for her existence. In contrast to her creator, she possesses compassion for others, notably saving Uryū Ishida’s life as a gesture of thanks for his mercy toward Mayuri. Her combat approach appears to blend capoeira-style martial arts with kidō techniques, as observed in various story arcs. Physically, Nemu’s body is engineered to survive fatal trauma, though she still experiences the associated pain. This durability allowed her to endure impregnation by Szayel Aporro Granz, a process designed to resurrect him by reducing the host to an empty shell, after which Mayuri rapidly repairs her to resume her duties. She is also immune to the myriad poisons developed by her creator, though she carries various antidotes for personal use. Additionally, her body stores numerous poisons and potions derived from Mayuri’s research, making her a hazardous opponent to those who attack her from within. While she does not typically wield a zanpakutō, illustrations in the artbook "All Colour but the Black" reveal that she possesses one shaped like a slender katana.
